What’s up Digi-Destined? We’re back at it again with Digimon TCG and this time we’re diving deep into EX-07: Liberator. This set extra booster set is looking to be a treasure trove of powerful cards, fresh strategies, and captivating artwork; bringing yet another new wave of excitement and strategy to the game, thanks to some new faces and returning ones introduced in the manhwa. Whether you’re a veteran tamer or a newcomer to the game, EX07 is sure to shake up the meta and provide endless possibilities for deck-building and competitive play. So, let’s explore what makes this set a must-have for every Digimon TCG enthusiast!
Parallel Rares:
EX07 brings some of the most eye-catching metal foils we’ve seen in the Digimon TCG, continuing the trend set by the ever-popular SP Imperialdramon from BT17. Bandai has really stepped up their game with these Gradient foils, which combine stunning visuals with a tactile finish that feels amazing in hand. The Gradient foils add depth and vibrancy to the cards, making them true collector’s items. But if that style isn’t quite your speed, don’t worry—there’s something for everyone in this set.
Alt Arts Galore:
One of the highlights of EX sets is the sheer variety of alternate art (alt art) cards, which give players a chance to customize their decks with unique and stylish visuals. This set features a stunning chase Beelstarmon, which is bound to be a hit among collectors, but be ready to pay the waifu tax. Additionally, EX07 offers reprinted alt arts of some iconic Rookies, with the BT15 Loogamon being a personal favorite that I’m eager to add to my collection. The set also includes solid border alt arts, which provide a sleek and affordable way to bling out your deck without breaking the bank. These border alt arts are perfect for players who want to stand out on the battlefield while keeping their budget in check.
Three Decks I Am Playing:
Zephagamon:
Following the exciting release of the Zephagamon Starter Deck, I’m thrilled about the new support that’s also coming in EX07 on the same day. This deck revolves around two key mechanics: Fortitude, which allows a Digimon with sources to be replayed without them when deleted, and a brand-new mechanic called Vortex, which lets the Digimon attack another Digimon at the end of your turn. The starter deck primarily focuses on Vortex, and if Shoto Kazuma is on the board, you can suspend him to switch the attack target to another Digimon or player. While the deck was explosive upon release, it had some clear weaknesses. The new EX07 support addresses these by offering evolution cost reduction, removal protection, and Security Attack +1, providing some powerful toolbox options. I haven’t personally gotten my hands on the deck yet, so all of this is still theory crafting, but be sure to take a peek and comment in the discord if you have any changes yourself!
Cendrillmon:
Cendrillmon is undoubtedly one of the most unique Starters I’ve seen introduced to the game. It centers around the primary mechanic of Overclock, which, like Vortex, allows you to attack at the end of your turn by deleting an [x] trait Digimon, [in this case a token puppet] to attack a player without suspending. The deck also includes protection options akin to Diaboromon, focusing on deleting your own units to safeguard your board or disrupt your opponent. Much of the EX07 support appears to be geared towards safely controlling the board state, with abilities like Armor Purge, Jamming, and Barrier. The Arisa Tamer even grants your tokens the option of Rush, which if your opponent isn’t prepared for could potentially close out many games! While I’m not entirely sure where this deck will fit in the meta, I believe it’s going to be a strong contender against decks that lack protection from Digimon effects.
Lilithmon X Antibody:
Lilithmon has long been a fan favorite, and her latest iteration brings an exciting new twist to the game. Since her days as a staple in Millith decks, she has been waiting for a moment to shine once again. Enter Lilithmon X, which not only reintroduces her to the meta but also brings a fresh gimmick that builds on the EX06 mechanic. Lilith X introduces a powerful mechanic that allows you to prevent the deletion of her stack once per turn by sacrificing another Digimon. This defensive move not only maintains board resilience but also lets you play a level 4 purple Digimon from your hand.
The strategy becomes even more potent if triggered during your opponent’s turn, as you also get to trash the top card of their security stack, adding significant pressure and disruption. To fully harness the decks potential, pairing her with low-level support, like Ignitemon from BT11 and the new EX07 rookies is essential. These cards enhance trash recursion and provide critical abilities like Scapegoat, Retaliation, and Blocker, making the deck both resilient and aggressively oppressive in controlling the game’s tempo.
