MTG Brothers' War | Mishra vs. Urza

MTG Brothers' War | Mishra vs. Urza

Brothers’ War is coming in hot! Just a month after Unfinity being released, players will have to get their wallets ready for this highly anticipated set. Brothers’ War intends on continuing the saga started in Dominaria United with both Mishra and his brother Urza at the front of the cover art! Veteran players will be elated to see the return of these classics characters come back into the spotlight, all while being on less then ideal terms with each other.

It’s clear that artifacts are at the core and focus for this set, while there will only be two commander precons from Brother’s War, we anticipate some spicy artifacts to be reprinted. The commander decks will feature every card having an old-school styled border, feeding even more so into what seems to be a common trend recently - nostalgia.

As usual, the lands are a talking point, with  beautiful artwork featuring mechanical titans involved in the war. The meld mechanic will also be seeing a return in the set with cards like Urza, Lord Protector & Mishra, Claimed by Gix, at the forefront. Many magic players are uncertain about Wizards trying to return the meld mechanics due to annoyance of the need to take the meld cards out of their sleeves and flip them over.

A new mechanic has also been revealed in brothers’ war known as Prototype. Which allows players to cast their creature with a different CMC (Converted Mana Cost) - Colors, Power and Toughness - while still being able to keep their abilities. It’s certainly an interesting mechanic to see and may have the potential to be quite powerful as well. Depending on their creatures’ abilities, many players will happily spend less mana to cast their creature spells if it means getting it on the board earlier.

So, what do you think…

Will Urza & Mishra live up to the hype players were looking forward to for this holiday season?
Is the new prototype mechanic more exciting than it is useful?

The Brothers’ War set is scheduled to release on Friday November 18th, 2022 - Pre-order here
